Description: I. A company of the battalion on one side of a country road as the band marches up and turns before the camera. The assembled battalion cheers the camera. A group of three officers with the battalion mascot, a very small black kitten. A battalion kit inspection. A company on the march down a cobbled road showing its variety of battlefield dress and equipment. The transport section has difficulty with half-broken mules, having to tie one to a frame in order to shoe it, and to ease others into the shafts of the limber wagons. As the limbers move off some of the mules rear with excitement. A field cooker has food unloaded from it (note the divisional sign), a meal is served and the men eat at wooden tables in the open. A "sergeants' mess" made from an open hoop of corrugated iron, and a more substantial officers' mess with six officers peering through the window. II. The Middlesex involvement in the Battle of the Lys. One battalion marches, backs to camera, past watching French Infantry. Men of 8th Battalion carry captured machine guns on a cart through the ruins of Saint Léger. Men of the regiment bury German dead.
Scenes of 2nd Battalion, Middlesex Regiment, in the rear areas of the Western Front, autumn 1917, with scenes of other battalions on the Western Front in 1918 added.
